November 7th, 2024

Dr Bisri gave an invited talk at The XIX International Small Angle Scattering Conference (SAS2024) in Taipei, Taiwan, hosted by the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) Taiwan. the invited talk was in the "Assembly of colloidal nanoparticles symposia", about the vital role of small-angle scattering in developing hyperordered superlattices of colloidal quantum dots for future electronics and photonics. Dr Bisri also visited the NSRRC synchrotron radiation facility in Hsinchu.

Dr Bisri visited the NanoTerasu synchrotron radiation facility at Aobayama Campus, Tohoku University, Sendai, for explanations of the new research facilities there that may be beneficial for SEMANTICS research.

Dadan Suhendar (D1 student) and Fidya Mawaddah (M1 student) made their presentation debuts at The 85th Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) Autumn Meeting (Niigata). Dadan presented his work on QD photodetector devices, and Fidya presented her work on Silver Bismuth Sulfide colloidal nanocrystals.

Dr Bisri gave an invited talk at The 24th International Meeting on Information Display (IMID 2024) in Jeju Island, South Korea, organized by The Korean Information Display Society (KIDS) and The Society for Information Display (SID).  The invited talk was the opener for the Quantum Dots Topic Symposia, which is the largest Symposia of the conference, and it was about electronic transport control of core-shell quantum dot assemblies.

Dr Bisri gave an invited talk at the Materials Challenges in Alternative and Renewable Energy 2024 (MCARE 2024) Conference in Jeju Island, South Korea, hosted by The Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers (KIChE). The invited talk was in "Symposium 8. Semiconductor Nanocrystal Quantum Dots," and it was about tweaking charge carrier transport in colloidal quantum dot superlattices.

Our invited review paper on Silver Bismuth Sulfide Quantum Dots has been published in Nanomaterials (Q1). The paper's title is "Advancing Silver Bismuth Sulfide Quantum Dots for Practical Solar Cell Applications." It appears in the Special Issue of "Advancing the Sustainable Application of Nanostructured Materials in Solar Cells". Link to the paper (Open Access).

SEMANTICS welcomes Dr Adam Badra Cahaya, an Assistant Professor and computational condensed matter physicist in the Department of Physics, University of Indonesia, as a Visiting Researcher who will stay in our group this summer.

Dr Bisri gave an invited talk at the International Seminar on Chemistry (ISoC VI) 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, organized by the Department of Chemistry of ITS and the Indonesian Chemical Society (HKI). The invited talk was about material discovery in colloidal quantum dot research.

Dr Bisri became a visiting professor at the Department of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia, under the ITS Inbound Researcher Mobility (IRM) program. He gave lectures on the Characterizations of Nanomaterials topics and initiated some new collaborations there.

Dr Bisri presented some SEMANTICS research results at the Gordon Research Conference on Colloidal Semiconductor Nanocrystals in Les Diablerets, Switzerland. This year`s theme was "Nanocrystal Chemistry, Physics and Applications". In this GRC, Dr Bisri met and discussed with many of our group collaborators, such as Prof Maksym Kovalenko, Prof Maria Loi, Dr Gabriele Raino, Dr Maksym Yarema, as well as colleagues who also work on charge transport in quantum dots, such as Prof Matt Law, Prof Dmitry Talapin, Prof Arjan Houtepen, Prof Emmanuel Lhuillier & Prof Sandrine Ithurria, Prof Cherie Kagan & Prof Chris Murray, Prof Daniel Gamelin, etc. Insightful ideas were also obtained from the chemist and spectroscopy communities in the field. Also, Prof Moungi Bawendi (Chemistry Nobel laureate 2023) gave us an encouraging perspective about the bright future of our field.

Dr Bisri visited ETH Zurich, Switzerland, delivering an LAC Special Seminar lecture on colloidal quantum dot electronics in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences. He then had extensive discussions with postdocs and researchers of Prof Maksym Kovalenko's group, which is also a collaborating group of SEMANTICS. He also had an opportunity to discuss with Prof Chih-Jen Shih.

Dr Bisri visited the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Kosterneuburg, near Vienna, where he delivered a colloquium lecture on charge carrier transport in colloidal quantum dots. He then spent an entire day in extensive discussions with PhD students and postdocs of Prof Maria Ibanez`s group, a collaborator of SEMANTICS.

As a laboratory that is researching colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals, and quantum dots, SEMANTICS also celebrates the Kavli Prize in Nanoscience 2024, which is awarded to Dr Armand Paul Alivisatos and Dr Chad A. Mirkin for pioneering the utilization of nanoparticles, nanocrystals, and quantum dots for biomedical advances.

The United Nations (UN) has officially declared 2024 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). As a laboratory researching quantum nanomaterials and devices, SEMANTICS plans to celebrate this.

Our paper on using colloidal semiconductor quantum dots as building blocks of high-performance supercapacitors has been published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. The title of the paper is "High Volumetric Energy Density Supercapacitor of Additive-Free Quantum Dot Hierarchical Nanopore Structure." The paper

Dr. Bisri attended The 12th International Conference on Quantum Dots (QD2024) in Munich, Germany, presenting works on both the electronic transport in colloidal quantum dot superlattices and the quantum dot supercapacitor devices. Our visiting researcher member (Ms. Wulandari) also presented her work on single QD devices.

Our bachelor B4 students (Yuto Aoki and Hiroaki Maemori) made their debut poster presentations at the CEMS International Symposium on Supramolecular Chemistry and Functional Materials 2024 (CEMSUPRA 2024) (Tokyo). Aoki presented his work on colloidal QD photodetectors, and Maemori presented his work on supercapacitor devices.  Our visiting researcher members also presented their posters at that international conference.

Our associate member, Mr Muhammad Alief Irham, successfully defended his PhD thesis at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia. Dr Bisri served as his PhD co-promotor. Mr Irham stayed in Japan for a year performing his research. Congratulations Dr Irham.
